When I was a sophomore in high school, my bestie and I had tickets to see Morrissey; I believe at the Tower. The day of, he canceled due to a sore throat. It still sticks out in my memory as one of the saddest days ever.
It took over a decade before I got to see the pompadoured man of angst, and truly it was fabulous. Again, the Tower Theater, this time with my husband. Morrissey fans are something else, chanting before the show, singing along during. Morrissey himself is quite the arrogant showman, swinging the mike and swiveling his hips. It’s hipster heaven and a ton of fun. (And yes, we bought the outrageously prices tshirts and continue to wear them. In public. They have to be a decade old by now.)
If I remember correctly, he does sing a fair number of songs from his time as frontsman for The Smiths, but it’s still worthwhile to brush up on more recent solo albums if it’s been a while.
I can’t wait to see him again, and this time I barely have to travel (I’ve become grumpy about driving more than 30 minutes in my old age). I love concerts at the Grand, it’s an intimate space with hardly any “bad” seats.
Tickets go on sale Friday February 21st at 10am for the June 17th show. You can call (my recommended method) or buy via the website. Say hi if you see me there!
