Thinking about giving CrossFit a try? CrossFit Riverfront is offering two free community workouts on Saturday, July 16th.
The classes will be held at 10am and 11:30am. The 11:30 is a partner-style workout; come with a friend or be matched up with a partner onsite.
- suitable for anyone ages 12 and up, regardless of current physical ability
- both classes are RivFit: bootcamp style, no barbell lifting
- open to the public: you don’t need to be or know a current member of the gym
- there will be raffles (benefiting Make-A-Wish), giveaways and discounts on memberships
CrossFit is functional fitness, meaning it trains you to be better at life: you’ll be able to run farther, jump higher, lift more, push more, hoist yourself up, with a stronger core. If you know a CrossFitter, you know that means fun, varied workouts that can be as simple as pull-ups, push-ups, squats and running; or it can mean adding in climbing ropes, flipping tires, pushing weighted sleds or running with a weight on your shoulder.
These movements prepare you for the physical stresses of everyday life or the occasional need for strength in an emergency: think lifting something heavy from the ground to a top shelf, needing to run holding a child, pulling yourself over a wall, etc. CrossFit is also ideal crosstraining for those looking to become stronger runners.
But at the end of the day, CrossFit is a great way to commit to working out and fostering mental toughness, which is good for everyone. The workouts are always changing and never boring, a wonderful stress reliever; having a coach and peers push you to continually work harder than you would on your own (or harder than I would on my own, anyway). My son and I love CrossFit and in particular the CrossFit Riverfront community. Give it a try!
