Food Bank of Delaware Food Drive Time: Thanksgiving for All https://delawaretodo.com/delaware-food-drive-time-thanksgiving/ Mon, 03 Oct 2016 18:49:02 +0000 http://delawaretodo.com/?p=73190

We’re hurtling through the last few months of the year! Time seems to speed up once September ends, and the holiday season will be here before you know it. The “Thanksgiving for All” Food Bank of Delaware food drive is underway— here’s the 411 on what, when and where to donate to make sure everyone has a Thanksgiving feast on their table.

Thanksgiving dinner place setting

The Food Bank of Delaware needs your help to provide 2,500 Thanksgiving meal boxes for Delaware families in need!

Food Bank of Delaware Food Drive: When to Donate

To ensure your donations make it into these boxes, they will need to arrive by Friday, November 4th (donations received after that date will be distributed to partner organizations).

Where to Donate

If you’d like to coordinate your own food drive, you can have the Food Bank drop off and pick up barrels for collection (each barrel holds between 150-200 pounds). If your donation consists of fewer than 20 bags/boxes, they ask that you drop it off at one of their warehouses between 8:30am and 4pm or at a designated drop-off location:

Food Bank of Delaware locations

  • Newark, 14 Garfield Way
  • Milford, 1040 Mattlind Way

Donation drop-off locations

  • Centreville Cafe
  • Claymont Library
  • Dover Library
  • Elsmere Library
  • Kirkwood Library
  • Newark Library
  • New Castle Library
  • Plow and Hearth in Christiana
  • Rehoboth Beach Library
  • Rockwood Apartments
  • Seaford Christian Academy
  • Stephen’s Jewelers
  • Tri State Storage Ridge Road
  • Tri State Storage Hickman Road
  • Tri State Storage New Castle

Some of the designated drop-off locations only take donations between certain hours, so make sure to confirm on the Food Bank’s website before you go (addresses for each site are listed there too).

What to Donate

Specific asks include canned sweet potatoes, peas, corn, pumpkin and gravy; evaporated milk; applesauce; coffee or tea bags; corn muffin mix; mashed potatoes (I presume boxed); graham cracker crust; turkey pan and frozen turkeys (frozen turkeys must be dropped off to Newark or Milford warehouses, obviously).

“Stuff The Bus” Delaware Thanksgiving Food Drive https://delawaretodo.com/stuff-the-bus-delaware-thanksgiving-food-drive/ Mon, 19 Oct 2015 20:51:05 +0000 http://delawaretodo.com/?p=5910

Thanksgiving food drive

It seems so early to be thinking about Thanksgiving, but I earned my first turkey feather buying groceries last night! DART is holding its 18th “Stuff The Bus” Delaware Thanksgiving Food Drive from November 10th- November 13th.

They are looking for nonperishable food donations as well as household products. For example:

  • canned fruit and veggies, canned pumpkin
  • boxed cereal
  • juice or evaporated milk/shelf-stable milk
  • sides like cranberry sauce, corn muffin mix, boxed mashed potatoes, gravy
  • paper products, laundry detergents

The Newark location of the Food Bank of Delaware will distribute the donated food through its hunger-relief partners in Delaware. Last year, DART’s “Stuff The Bus” food drive stuffed two 30-foot buses and collected 9.7 tons of food for Delawareans in need.

“Stuff The Bus” 2015 will be collecting food at the following times/sites:

Tuesday, November 10th

  • Walmart, 939 N. DuPont Highway in Milford 8am – 6pm
  • Acme, North Dover Center in Dover 8am – 6pm

Wednesday, November 11th

  • Acme, Fairfax Shopping Center, US 202 in Wilmington 8am – 5pm

Thursday, November 12th

  • Rodney Square (Market Street side) in Wilmington 7am – 5pm

Friday, November 13th

  • Rodney Square (Market Street side) in Wilmington 7am – 1pm

EAGLE 97.7 and COOL 101.3 will be broadcasting live all day on Tuesday, at both the Walmart in Milford and Acme in Dover. WJBR will broadcast from 11am to 1pm Thursday at Rodney Square.

Can’t make it to any of the “Stuff The Bus” collection sites? Donate directly to the Food Bank of Delaware (they take frozen turkeys too, at their Newark or Milford warehouses). Even better, organize your own Thanksgiving food drive; you can print out a shopping list flyer here and if you let me know in the comments or by tweeting @DelawareToDo, I’ll help spread the word.
