Over 1100 locations nationwide are offering free museum admission for Museum Day Live! See who is participating in Delaware and Philadelphia.
Museum Day Live! is an annual event through the Smithsonian that allows you and a friend to visit a participating museum for free— there are participating museums in all 50 states. This year, the day falls on Saturday, September 23rd.
Here’s how it works:
- Visit smithsonian.com/museumday to search the list of museums by location or keyword.
- Choose which museum you’d like to visit carefully. You can only download one ticket per email address, and once you select a museum, you won’t be able to change your selection.
- You’ll need a printed ticket to gain entry to some museums, others will allow you to show your ticket on your phone or tablet. Take note of what you’ll need.
- Each ticket is good for general admission for you plus one guest and is only valid on Museum Day Live! The ticket doesn’t extend to special exhibits, parking, IMAX film screening, etc.
Here are the locations participating in Delaware:
Georgetown
Treasures of the Sea Exhibit (this is a collection of Spanish treasures from a 17th century shipwreck, the Nuestra Senora de Atocha)
New Castle
Read House and Gardens
Newark
Iron Hill Museum and Science Center
Wilmington
Delaware History Museum/Mitchell Center for African American Heritage
Hagley
Old Swedes Historic Site
Here’s what’s available in Philadelphia:
Historic St. George’s UMC + Museum (admission here is always free)
Independence Seaport Museum
Penn Museum
Philadelphia History Museum
The Print Center (also always free)
Rosenbach Museum and Library
Woodford Mansion
This strikes me as a great opportunity to maybe take a little weekender trip and visit a museum in another state!
Will you be taking advantage of the free museum admission to any of the locations listed? Let us know!
