Between shopping and holiday events, you might find yourself out and about more than usual at night and on the weekends. Here’s where and when you can park for free (or at a nice price) in Wilmington, Newark and Philadelphia in December.
Every bit helps, right? Well, a little bit of preparing can help you save a tidy bit of money if you find yourself in the city.
Here’s where you can find free parking in Wilmington, Newark and Philly this holiday season.
Free Parking in Wilmington
Street parking is free downtown on weekdays after 12noon from 2nd Street to 12th Street, French to Washington, as well as in the Riverfront area, from Thanksgiving until New Years Day. Parking is always free in these areas on the weekend.
Take your time ice skating or hanging out with friends in the beer garden!
Free Parking in Newark
I normally hate trying to find parking in Newark so this time of year is my favorite— for the abundance of parking spots that just happen to be free! Park your car at a municipal parking metered spot and or in a municipal lot at no charge from December 21st through the 26th and enjoy all the restaurants and small businesses Newark has to offer.
(Not sure where to park? Take a gander at this interactive map of on-street metered spots and municipal-run parking lots before you go.)
Free Parking in Philadelphia
Metered parking is free throughout Philadelphia after 11am on Saturdays until January 1st. In addition, some Philadelphia Parking Authority garages are offering parking for only $8 on Saturdays and Sundays between 11am and 5pm. You’ll need to go to the garage management office and get a discount validation ticket to pay the $8 rate.
$8 Saturday parking is available at:
- AutoPark Independence Mall (5th and Market)
- AutoPark Olde City (2nd and Sansom)
- Parkade on 8th (801 Filbert St)
- AutoPark Jefferson (10th and Ludlow)
