Have a high school student interested in conservation and other green areas? Longwood Gardens is offering students in grades 9 through 12 a chance to learn about the many careers found within public gardens during their Green Careers Exploration Day.
Participants choose between two programs, one focusing on Land Stewardship, Conservation and GIS, the other focusing on Arboriculture and Conservatory Display. Both programs feature a hands-on horticulture activity, an overview of careers and student programs at Longwood, Q&A with staff members, and are designed to fulfill Career-Shadowing Graduation Requirements.
Green Careers Exploration Day takes place on Thursday October 17th from 9am to noon, and is free for registered students with one adult per student. Advance registration is required and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Adults may register for a maximum of 10 students.
UPDATE: looks like this event is at capacity, although you can join the waitlist.
If you can’t make Green Careers Exploration Day, consider registering for the online Careers in Horticulture webinar for grades 6 through 12 scheduled for October 1st at 1pm.
Teachers can also register their classrooms for free for the Careers in Horticulture webinar and other virtual field trips.
P.S. While nosing around the Longwood website I discovered a number of Continuing Ed courses both online and in person that are worth checking out!
