The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that nearly 3 out of 4 car seats are not used correctly.

Crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 14.

In 2008, the National Survey of the Use of Booster Seats found that only 43 percent of children 4 to 7 were riding in booster seats. According to CHOP, kids ages 4 to 7 who use booster seats are 45 percent less likely to be injured in car crashes than children who are restrained only by seat belts.

Children should remain in booster seats until they are 4’9″. (Did you know that? I was amazed.)

This week, September 19th-25th, is Child Passenger Safety Week. Certified technicians are available to inspect and verify that your car seat is installed correctly and safely:

New Castle County:

DMV in New Castle (Rt 13) 9/21, 9/22 & 9/23
Middletown PD 9/25
Christiana Hospital ($15 installation fee)
AI DuPont Hospital

Kent County:

DMV in Dover 9/20 & 9/24

Sussex County:

Sussex Pregnancy Care Center in Georgetown
DMV in Georgetown 9/21 & 9/22
Sussex County Coop- Ext. in Georgetown
Delaware State Police in Lewes 9/23
Carlisle RD in Milford 9/24

All inspections and installations are by appointment, click here for addresses and contact info. If no date is listed I believe the inspections are ongoing and not limited to Child Passenger Safety Week/ National Seat Check Saturday.

For more info, check out the NHTSA website (where you can register your car seat to receive recall notifications and see car seats rated for ease of use) or “like” Child Passenger Safety on Facebook.

If you’re on the Twitter, the Child Passenger Safety Twitter account (@childseatsafety) will be hosting a Twitter party Wednesday, September 22nd at 2pm EST. NHTSA experts will be offering information on car seats and how to travel safely with children and answering any questions. Use hashtag #CPSweek.

Have you ever had your car seat inspected or installed by an expert? Do you know of any more places that do so?

I usually do not leave a leave a response, however I
looked at a ton of comments here Car Seat Inspections | Family Fun Delaware.
I actually do have 2 questions for you if it’s okay. Is it simply me or does it look like a few of these responses come across like they are coming from brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are writing at additional social sites, I’d
like to keep up with you. Would you post a list of every one of your social pages like your
