WARNING: Spoilers about the past Marvel Movies revealed. No Avengers spoilers though.

HOLY SAUSAGE IN A SANDWICH WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS AND THAT RED SAUCE STUFF ON TOP. THIS MOVIE WAS INCREDIBLE.

Plot:

So Nick Fury, the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D, is at the S.H.I.E.L.D base, when the huge power source they got from Captain America after he crashed his ship, called the tesseract, starts freaking out and makes a portal. Loki comes out, and pretty much wreaks havoc and takes the Tesseract. Nick Fury decides to initiate the Avengers.

Black Widow (Scarlett Johanson’s character) goes to India to recruit the Hulk/ Bruce Banner. Meanwhile, Tony Stark/Iron Man is also recruited by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Captain America is already with Nick Fury, as revealed at the end of Captain America’s movie. Loki travels to Germany to steal iridium for an unknown cause, and Iron Man and Captain America stop him and capture him. They take him onto a jet, and Thor appears and takes Loki.

What will happen next?? Watch The Avengers to find out!!!

Plot: 10/10

Acting: 10/10

Entertainment Value: 10/10

Overall Rating: 10000000000/10

Dude, this movie was awesome. Every scene with the Hulk was super awesome, which totally makes up for the poorness of the Hulk’s movie. Captain America also was really good in this, because he’s just cool. See this movie right now.

And by the way, in my previous movie reviews, I said whether or not you need to watch it for the Avengers. Now that I’ve seen it, I can say that it will still make sense if you didn’t watch all of them, but for the full experience, you should.

Other Stuff:

Explosions, a tiny bit of blood, nothing too bad, except one scene a man gets his eye torn out, but you don’t see anything gory happen. Soooo age appropriate for….8 and up?

Mom Says:

Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick. This movie was 2 hours and 30 something minutes long, and I can’t think of a thing that should have been taken out. It has its hokey moments, but they’re comic book-esque hokey moments, and as such excusable and enjoyable. Many of the best scenes are Avenger vs. Avenger, taking the opportunity to deepen the plot AND show off some fantastic CGI and special effects. Really a great movie and a stunning way to start off the blockbuster season.

A lot of time is dedicated to setting up the Black Widow movie that I’m sure is in the works… and I’m ashamed to say that I kinda want to see it when it comes out. I’m no ScarJo fan but her character is badass.

Is The Avengers OK for little kids? … it’s a tough call. The eye scene Jake brings up is actually kind of subtle— it happens offscreen and the lead-up is such that I don’t think a kid young enough to be bothered by it would even be aware of what had just happened. There is a threat of torture at one point, but again, not so heavy-handed that a kid would necessarily even notice it. There is comic book violence galore: smashing and explosions and crashing and buildings falling, but nothing gory or really dark (Iron Man is way darker). The final fight scene is intense in that there is a LOT going on, so might be too much for a sensitive kid, especially in 3D.

Cass is super-sensitive in movies, spending much of her in-theater time with her hands over her ears to dampen the soundtrack, covering her eyes when the music suggest something scary might happen, and crying buckets when anything sad takes place. I think the only part of The Avengers she really would have had a problem with (other than the sound) is one sad scene… most kids won’t have that extreme of a reaction to it.

All in all a fine film that truly does justice to the comic book genre.
