Thanksgiving food drive

Help your neighbor have a hearty Thanksgiving meal: donate to the Food Bank of Delaware TODAY!

In 2022, 1 in 8 Delawareans (11.8%) and 1 in 6 Delaware children (18.1%) were considered food insecure. Of that number, more than half were ineligible for SNAP and other nutrition programs.

Since then, we’ve all increasingly been feeling the effects of inflation on food prices, and that includes food banks and low income households. More and more Delawareans are finding themselves food insecure and in need of assistance, but not to the point where they qualify for government assistance.

Food banks and pantries are essential to bridging that gap, and they could use your help.

Be sure your donation can be distributed in time for Thanksgiving by giving early (by noon on Friday, November 8th). Of course, items and money donated after that time will be helpful throughout the rest of 2024.

The Food Bank of DE lists these as most needed items:

  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Canned gravy
  • Pie filling and crust
  • Canned veggies
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Stuffing
  • Canned sweet potatoes
  • Mac and cheese
  • Frozen turkeys

You can also donate your surplus garden produce and shop the food bank’s wishlist any time of year.

Remember that every little bit helps. Every $1 donated helps the food bank provide THREE meals to Delawareans in need.
