Wilmington Drama League will be holding auditions for their January production of “Disaster: The Musical”. Auditions will be Sunday October 8th and Monday October 9th at the Wilmington Drama League. Call backs, if needed will be Thursday, October 12th. Auditions for Ben/Lisa ONLY will begin at 6:30. Adults will begin at 7:00 pm.

Director Nick D’Argenio, Music Director Matt Casarino, and Choreographer Tommy Fisher-Klein are looking for cast members for the musical comedy and 70s movie spoof Disaster! Prepare approximately one minute of a pop song from the 1970’s (the show includes pop, rock and disco like “Hot Stuff,” “Feelings,” and “Never Can Say Goodbye,” to give you a sense of what we’re looking for) that shows your vocal range.

Bring sheet music clearly marked and in the correct key. Tracks are permitted as accompaniment. If music is on a phone without an earphone jack, must provide adapter. Wear shoes and clothing comfortable for dancing. Cast age ranges from early 20s to mid 60s, with one part for a boy who can pull off 11 – 12. There will also be readings from the script.

Cast of Characters includes these leads, in addition to ensemble members. (Note: please don’t let the high notes scare you from auditioning for the part you want. We know these are scary ranges.)

Chad: 25-45. A handsome and winning leading man. Pretends to be a player, but is still heartbroken over the loss of his first love. Tenor with a great rock and pop voice, able to sustain a belted B.

Marianne: 25-40. An attractive and focused journalist, insecure underneath it all. Great, high pop belt. Has to sustain a high F#.

Scott: 25-45. Goofy guy, a nerd who wants to be cool. Tenor with a sweet pop voice to an A.

Sister Mary Downy: 30-50. Awkward, painfully sincere and judgmental nun with a gambling addiction. Pop/gospel high belt. Has to sustain a High Ab and reach a high B.

Ted: 35-50. A disaster expert. Non-emotional, dry, a serious, professorial type. Baritone with pop voice to a B (which can be falsetto).

Jackie: An aging but still sexy showgirl and now lounge singer. Dumb but honest. 30-45. Pop belt to a D.

Tony: 35-55. An unscrupulous but attractive and (sometimes) charming middle-aged man. A schemer. Baritone with pop voice to an Ab.

Shirley: 50-65. Loveable, gregarious, and jolly Jewish woman with a secret. Maury’s wife. Tap dances in act two. Great comedic role. High alto with belt to a B.

Maury: 50-65. Shirley’s dedicated husband. Loveable and jolly. Baritone, pop voice to a G.

Levora Verona: 30-50. African-American. Flamboyant and glamorous faded disco diva. Pushy and sassy but in love with her sweet dog. Gospel/ Pop voice. High belt to an E, soprano/gospel notes above that.

Ben/Lisa: (boy) Played by a boy who looks around 11 years old and whose voice has not changed. Smart, honest, direct boy and girl twins played by the same actor. Jackie’s son and daughter. Strong pop voice with belt to a high D (treble clef).

Jake: 30 and up. Tony’s personal bodyguard. Imposing, but kid- like underneath. Pop voice to an F.

Wealthy Man: 35 and up. Uptight but loving to his wife. Slight British accent because of pretentiousness. Sweet pop voice to an F.
