The tulip festival at family-owned Dalton Farms in Swedesboro is a quick jaunt from either the Delaware Memorial or Commodore Barry. It’s worth the drive, with lots of cute, thoughtfully placed photo ops, lovely landscapes, and of course a multitude of tulips.
The tulip festival runs through Sunday April 22nd. There will be food trucks, live music, vendors and more on weekends (see the schedule and lineup here). The fields are open from 10-7 for picking: $2 a stem or 10 for $10. Tickets are $14 online (before taxes and fees) or a flat $20 onsite.
Buckets are provided to hold your picked tulips and wrapping stations are throughout. You don’t need to shears or anything, just pull the stems straight up from the ground.
It looks like a hot air balloon might make an appearance, depending on weather. There’s also a lake with picnic tables– paddleboat rental looks to be available on weekends.

Some quick tips:
- Wear comfy walking shoes, as the tulips cover a lot of ground (but maybe bring nice kicks for your photos!)
- If it’s sunny, it’s HOT in the fields. Pack your sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and/or a water bottle.
- There were a couple of strategically placed tables we used to set up a phone so we could have photos of the two of us together; not sure whether that was done by Dalton Farms or if someone else placed them there. I also saw someone use the cupholder on a bicycle prop to hold their phone. To be certain of group shots, bring a (lightweight) tripod or be prepared to rely on the kindness of strangers.
- Pick flowers at varying stages of bloom so they’ll last longer.
- Don’t forget quarters to feed the chickens, and ideally a cooler or a way to put your flowers in water so they don’t wilt on your way home! (They do perk back up nicely once they’re put in water.)
