The Crazy Costume Dash takes place this Saturday, October 11th at Lums Pond State Park to support the Children in Nature initiative! This all-ages, all-abilities fun run/walk includes a one-miler just for kids and a 5K. Certificates will be awarded for best children’s costume, best adult’s costume and best team costume.
There’s a good chance I’ll rock this running costume Saturday.
Those competing to place overall or in their age group will start first. Slower runners and those who want to take advantage of trick-or-treating (yay!) will be released after. Everybody gets a treat bag and a race tee while supplies last, and is entered into a drawing for prizes like free passes to Fort Delaware and the Killens Pond Water Park for 2015, a 2015 Annual Pass and a weekend stay in the Trap Pond campground.
Registration starts at 2:30 pm, race begins at 3:00 pm (save time by printing & completing a form before you go). Registration is open through the day of the race: adults $30, children 7-12 $10, kids 6 and under free of charge. $10 from each paid registration will go toward Delaware State Parks’ Environmental Education programs.
The dash supports the Children in Nature initiative and promotes healthy lifestyles, education, recreation and stewardship of Delaware’s natural resources. Before or after your run, check out the rest of the park: there’s hiking, biking, fishing, boating, disc golf, picnic areas, playgrounds and (my favorite) the Go Ape Tree Top Adventure zip-line course. Or reserve a campsite and stay the night!
I’ve done a Lums Pond 5K before (Cass placed 3rd in her age group!) and it’s mostly trails, some hills but not too bad, and overall a fun, well-organized experience.
Small local runs are the best! Hope we see you there.
